Space Within a Space
The goal of this project is to design a speculative repair center using repair strategy. Layering and spatial ideas were inspired by a broken umbrella and bubble wrap that I repaired to reuse. Using two strategies, my design calls for different levels of privacy, addresses thermal/acoustic issues and strives to create an inviting environment. For thermal/acoustic protection, I propose layered spaces using thermal materials. The material itself has soft, cushioned properties, so I created comfort seatings along the wall. The configuration of the boundary is from the transition of the pad. The facade is pushed back to create a buffer zone to naturally welcome people. The spatial qualities from umbrella repair are applied and each boundary has a small pocket space where intimate or private activity could happen. Within the facade, I created different spaces through wrapping. Each space has its own pocket to support programing suitable for smaller spaces.
