Design Build Blob: Crafting Spatial Agency
Urban life has become an increasingly atomized experience in which top down design has monopolized the domain of collective, ecstatic, and civic experience. We argue for a shift in architecture from the design of highly programmed and determined spaces, to the design of flexible and deployable spatial protocols that can be directly implemented by users. Toward this goal we have developed a low-cost, easy to use system which allows users to define and redefine the uses of both public and private space at a larger scale than previously possible. Our project also reintroduces craft, imperfection, and community into architectural practice. We envision an urbanism that allows everyone to be an architect. We envision an architecture and an urbanism after architecture.
